Stuff About Me
I am a slave to sugar
I identify with the villain
I find comfort in thunderstorms
I seek out fear for truth

Halloween

Ok everybody - this post was inspired by Michaella.

(Updated/edited on Oct. 6th)

Despite probably NOT duding up as Mae West (ironic pun intended), I have to admit that I just can't think of anything that cool this year. I've got a couple of backup options, but some of them are kinda lame.

I'd like to solicit your opinions on what I should do this year -

Here are the rules for the challenge:

1) The costume must involve makeup in some way

2) The costume must be challenging for me to do
(ie, don't just say "KISS" 'cause you know I'm all over that)

3) the price of the outfit must be reasonable
(I'll do my best - I'm just saying no "giant oliophant from Lord of the Rings" or craziness like that)

The winner will be determined by me, and will get to see their creation on my skinny white butt (er, not literally) on Halloween night! I will take pictures and post :)

Here begins the moratorium on not blogging and... my job.

I lost my job last week.

More accurately, I lost my job the week prior, being invaded in my own office by unwelcome agents of Human Resources. The details I can't get into, but they imposed a suspension on me (in Klingon they call that "Administrative Leave." Whatever, you still don't get paid). And when that week was over, I was called in again to be humiliated in front of my boss, a man I've known for almost 4 years, and who brought me to this area from the ignomious wasteland of Missouri.

(ok, so it's not a wasteland, but I prefer city life to being 2 hours from public transportation :)

so that sucked.

the good news is that this was basically a good thing. Yeah, I won't have a paycheck coming in soon, and it's a little scary... but really I'm kind of excited.

I've survived the first week (technically the 2nd), which involves writing things, signing things, and worrying about what to do with your retirement plan... There are SOOOO many pieces to have to think about it's unbelievable... most of the time your HR department handles it for you. Buuuut when you're not really an employee anymore, they kinda don't have to take care of you anymore. And they let you know that. Repeatedly.

Now that that crap's all handled, I only have to get myself motivated now to complete my classwork for my graduate studies, and get myself motivated to find a new job.

Uh oh.

That means having to figure out what the hell I want to do with myself. Crap.

I know a few things about my skills at work:

1) I am an extremely effective manager, both in my management of process, and my "people skills"

2) I have the ability to recognize patterns in business and to problem-solve when an issue arises

3) I develop levels of trust in my thinking process, and in my management style, both in employees and in superiors

4) I am way more interested in fixing/solving problems than in placing blame

5) I can't stand when individuals do not take responsibility for their actions

Weird one to end on there, but it's all true.

SO other than the fact that I can't seem to get any of my former co-workers or employees to call me on the phone, (which I'm finding a little weird and disturbing), I'm in a pretty good spot.

yeah, I still have to find a job - I'm considering doing temp work next week, and seeing where that leads me, at least initially.

I'm also still committed to school and intend to keep going with my MIS degree.

And gee, I'm just not all that broken up about having left my job. I mean, it's pretty scary that they can just cut the rope so quickly - I'd like to believe that I was somewhat of an important person in my office, but hey - they set me straight on that part.
